Man Charged Again Following Spate of Vehicle Break-Ins in Deal

A man has been charged in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins across Deal and Sholden, following a swift response from local police.

Mitchell Gent, 26, of Freemens Way, Deal, was arrested on Thursday, 20 February after an investigation into multiple reports of vehicle interference spanning from Saturday, 8 February to Wednesday, 19 February 2025.

Gent has been charged with:

  • Vehicle interference
  • Theft from a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a Class B drug (cannabis)

He remains in police custody and is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today (Friday, 21 February).

Series of Thefts Spark Investigation

The investigation was launched after nine separate incidents were reported to Kent Police, detailing cars being broken into and searched. Items reportedly stolen during the spree included:

  • A headtorch
  • Cash
  • Computer accessories

The thefts took place in both the Deal and Sholden areas, prompting heightened concern among local residents.

Police Praise Public for Vigilance

Inspector Mark Sankey commended the public for their assistance, stating:

“We are grateful to all who have provided information regarding vehicle interference in the town. We urge residents to report any suspicious activity to Kent Police immediately, as it allows our officers to respond quickly and effectively. By working together, we increase the chances of bringing offenders before the courts.”

Police Advice to Vehicle Owners

Kent Police also issued a reminder to residents to remain vigilant and take preventative measures to reduce the risk of vehicle thefts:

  • Lock vehicles and ensure windows are closed, even when parked at home.
  • Remove valuables or keep them out of sight.
  • Park in well-lit areas or driveways with security cameras.
  • Report suspicious behavior to Kent Police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
