Police Release Image After Indecent Incident on Northern Line Tube

British Transport Police have released an image as part of an investigation into an indecent incident that took place on the Northern Line last summer.

At approximately 11:40 pm on Thursday, 22 August 2024, a woman was traveling on the Northern Line between Balham and Old Street when a man sat opposite her and began masturbating while staring directly at her.

Officers are now appealing for the public’s help to identify the man captured in the image, who they believe could assist with their enquiries.

Appeal for Witnesses and Information

Detectives are urging anyone who recognises the man or who may have been on the same train that night to come forward.

“We take all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously,” a spokesperson from British Transport Police said. “We are working to ensure that those responsible for such distressing incidents are identified and held accountable. No one should have to experience this kind of behaviour while using public transport.”

The police are also encouraging anyone who may have experienced similar incidents on the London Underground to report them, as this can help investigators build a clearer picture of repeat offenders and patterns of behaviour.

How to Provide Information

If you recognise the man or have any relevant information, you are urged to contact British Transport Police by:

  • Texting: 61016
  • Calling: 0800 40 50 40
  • Quoting Reference: 2400106476

For those who wish to remain anonymous, information can also be provided via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

Support for Victims

British Transport Police are reminding victims of sexual harassment and assault on public transport that they are not alone, and help is available. They encourage anyone who experiences similar incidents to come forward, assuring them that their reports will be handled sensitively and professionally.
