Man Jailed for 8 Years Over Online Child Sex Offences

Timothy Evans, 43, from Camberley, was slammed with an eight-year prison sentence at Chichester Crown Court on Friday, 14 February, after trying to groom a supposed 14-year-old girl online.

Sex Offender Busted in Undercover Sting

Evans was no stranger to the law. He was previously convicted in 2022 for sexually communicating with a child under 16 and facilitating child sex offences. After his release in July 2024, he was slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) banning contact with children.

But between September and October 2024, Evans ignored the rules and chatted with an undercover officer posing as “Jess,” a 14-year-old girl. Despite clear signs, he pushed on with graphic sexual messages and plans to meet the child at a train station.

Evans Planned Meeting Despite Restrictions

  • Offered to travel to meet the girl
  • Arranged to visit her home while parents were out

His final messages led to a swift arrest and charges on 24 October 2024.

Police Praise Teamwork in Nab Case

“Once we received intelligence about Evans’ online activity, we took swift action to arrest him and seize his devices,” said Matt Wythe from Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT). “The intended victim was never subjected to any physical offence. His behaviour was predatory, so I am extremely pleased with this outcome. “This case highlights the strong policing response to the ongoing online threat from predators against children.”

Officers from multiple units worked together to bring this registered sex offender to justice, stopping him before any harm could occur.
