A man accused of murdering a 63-year-old man outside a Wetherspoons pub in Lewisham has appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from HMP Belmarsh today (March 5).

Victim Named as Charlie Prodromou

The victim, Charlie Prodromou, suffered life-threatening injuries following an assault on Lewisham High Street on March 1.

Emergency services were called at 8:40 PM, where they found Mr. Prodromou in critical condition. He was rushed to hospital for treatment but tragically died shortly after.

Court Proceedings and Trial Date

The accused, Paul Tallant, 42, of Eltham, has been charged with murder.

During a brief hearing at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Gemma White said that a provisional trial date has been set for October.

If a trial is required, it is expected to last between five and seven days.

Tallant is due to enter a plea in May.

Met Police Statement

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed:

“A man has appeared in court charged with murder following a fatal assault in Lewisham.

“Police were called at 20:39hrs on Saturday, 1 March to reports of an assault in Lewisham High Street. Officers responded with paramedics and found a 63-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.”

“He was taken to hospital where he later died. His family have been informed and he has been identified as Charlie Prodromou.

“It’s believed Mr. Prodromou was assaulted following a disturbance at The Watch House pub.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder. He was later charged as above.”
