Two teenage boys have been arrested following a disturbing spate of machete-related violence across South Manchester, as police ramp up efforts to crack down on youth disorder involving bladed weapons.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) executed early morning raids on Wednesday, March 12, detaining a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old on suspicion of wounding. Both suspects are currently being held in custody.
The arrests come after a four-month investigation into multiple incidents in which teenagers, reportedly armed with machetes and zombie knives, were involved in violent confrontations across the area.
Public Reassured Amid Rising Knife Crime Concerns
While the incidents have caused concern among residents, police have confirmed that no serious injuries have been reported so far.
Detective Inspector John Robb, from GMP’s City of Manchester South division, said the arrests marked a significant step in the force’s crackdown on youth violence.
“Our team has been investigating a series of machete incidents in South Manchester over the last four months. These arrests today are an excellent result, but our work does not stop there. We will continue our efforts to investigate these crimes and bring those responsible to justice.”
Increased Patrols and Community Engagement
In response to the rising concerns, GMP has also stepped up high-visibility patrols across South Manchester in a bid to reassure local communities and deter further violence.
DI Robb added:
“Extra patrols will be in place across South Manchester. If you see any of our officers, please feel free to speak to them as they are there to help.”
Ongoing Efforts to Tackle Knife Crime
The arrests form part of a broader effort by Greater Manchester Police to combat youth violence and remove dangerous weapons from the streets. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could help ongoing investigations.
Police are urging parents, carers, and community leaders to engage with young people about the risks and consequences of carrying weapons, amid growing national concern over the impact of knife crime on youth safety.
