13-Year-Old Appears in Court Over Knife Allegation at Blackheath School

A 13-year-old has appeared in court accused of carrying a kitchen knife on the grounds of a south-east London school.

The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was brought before Bromley Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of possessing a bladed article on school premises.

The alleged incident took place last month at Leigh Academy Blackheath, raising concerns among parents and staff over safety on school grounds.

The teenager did not enter a plea during the brief hearing and has been released on unconditional bail. A further court date has been scheduled for next month.

If found guilty, the offence carries a minimum sentence of a four-month detention and training order, under current youth justice sentencing guidelines.

Police and school officials have not commented on the specific circumstances of the incident, but a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that appropriate safeguarding procedures were followed.

The case has renewed calls for stricter measures to prevent weapons from being brought onto school grounds, with education leaders urging continued investment in youth outreach and support services.

Parents at Leigh Academy Blackheath have been informed and reassured that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
