Police Seal Off Street After Suspicious House Fire in Heald Green, Stockport

A police investigation is underway after a house fire in Stockport in the early hours of Wednesday morning (May 7).

Emergency services raced to Wilmslow Road, Heald Green, just before 1am after reports of a fire at a detached property. The blaze, which caused smoke damage to the front door, was quickly extinguished by firefighters from Wythenshawe and Cheadle stations using hose reels.

Fortunately, no one was inside the property at the time and no injuries were reported.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that officers and forensic teams have since cordoned off part of the street. Crime scene investigators were seen combing the area this morning, while detectives carried out door-to-door enquiries with neighbours. Burnt remains of a wheelie bin were also spotted outside the home.

It remains unclear whether the fire is being treated as arson, with police stating that “enquiries are ongoing.

A GMP spokesperson said:

Shortly before 1am on Wednesday, May 7, we were called to reports of a fire at an address on Wilmslow Road, Cheadle. Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. No one was in the property and there are no injuries to report.”

Fire crews were in attendance for around one-and-a-half hours.
