Driver Arrested for Drink Driving at Bank Holiday Checkpoint

A motorist was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after being stopped at a Bank Holiday MIT (Mandatory Intoxicant Testing) checkpoint on St John’s Road West.

DMR Roads Policing Units conducted the operation at 11am on Monday, targeting morning-after drink driving, a known risk following night-out celebrations.

One driver, who had reportedly been drinking the night before, failed the test and was arrested at the scene.

Police are urging all drivers to ensure they are fully fit to drive the next morning after consuming alcohol, as lingering intoxication can still impair judgment and reaction times.

A DMR Roads Policing spokesperson said:

Even the morning after a night out, alcohol can still be in your system. Always make sure you’re safe to drive.”

Enforcement operations like this are part of ongoing efforts to keep roads safe, particularly during holiday periods when drink driving risks spike.
