Bank Holiday Motorist Busted at Morning-After Drink-Drive Checkpoint
A driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at a Bank Holiday Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoint on St John’s Road West.
DMR Roads Policing Units set up the operation at 11am on Monday to catch those still over the limit after a night out. Morning-after drink driving is a known hazard following celebrations.
One Driver Fails Test, Gets Arrested
Officers stopped a motorist who reportedly drank the night before. The driver failed the breath test and was immediately arrested at the scene.
Police are warning everyone to be 100% sure they’re sober enough to drive the next morning. Even hours later, alcohol can seriously affect reaction times and judgement.
Police Warn: Don’t Risk It the Morning After
“Even the morning after a night out, alcohol can still be in your system. Always make sure you’re safe to drive,” said a DMR Roads Policing spokesperson.
Holiday Enforcement on High Alert
Operations like this are stepping up to tackle the spike in drink driving during holiday periods. Police urge all drivers to keep roads safe by avoiding driving until fully sober.
