Ex-Cop Busted for Faking Driving Licence
A former Hertfordshire Police officer has been slammed for gross misconduct after falsely claiming he passed his driving test — but he never had a full licence.
False Claims Exposed
PC Alexander Simpson, who’s no longer with the force, told bosses he had a full driving licence since 2017 and was authorised to drive automatic vehicles.
But in 2024, during a routine “check drive” with the police driving school, Simpson failed to produce a valid licence. Further checks revealed he only ever held a provisional driving licence.
Misconduct Panel Hits Hard
A police misconduct panel ruled Simpson’s actions were gross misconduct. They said if he was still serving, he’d have been immediately dismissed.
“On the balance of probabilities, former PC Simpson did not hold a valid full driving licence, did mislead his supervisory officers, and failed to uphold the highest standards expected of a police officer,” said Chief Constable Andy Prophet.
“Such behaviour undermines public trust and confidence and cannot be justified.”
Barred from Policing for Life
Following the verdict, Simpson has been added to the College of Policing’s barred list. He is now banned from working in any policing roles ever again.
The Fallout
Simpson raised suspicions during the check drive when he handed over a photo of a document instead of his actual licence. This scandal piles pressure on police vetting and accountability procedures.
