Motorcycle owners in Folkestone are being urged to take extra precautions following a recent spike in thefts from residential areas over the past two weeks.
Six Thefts Under Investigation
Kent Police confirmed that at least six incidents of motorcycle theft and attempted theft are currently under investigation. The latest occurred on Broadmead Road, where a black Suzuki was stolen overnight. Officers found drag marks leading from the location and the discarded bike cover nearby.
Police Issue Security Advice
Inspector Carlo Capozzi, of Folkestone’s Community Safety Unit, issued the following warning:
“Following reports of motorcycle thefts in Folkestone, we are urging owners to take extra steps to protect their bikes.
Residents can better protect themselves through measures like using a disc lock, fitting a tracker, and securing their motorcycle to an immovable object. When possible, try to park in well-lit, busy areas covered by CCTV.”
He added:
“If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it to us.”
What Motorcycle Owners Can Do
Police recommend the following security measures:
-
Use a disc lock on the front wheel
-
Fit a GPS tracker to assist in recovery
-
Anchor your motorcycle to a solid structure with a chain lock
-
Park in lit, busy areas with visible CCTV
-
