Driver Escapes Injury after Arson Attack on Lorry Trailer

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses following a lorry fire at Clacket Lane services on the evening of Tuesday 8 November. Officers believe the fire may have been started deliberately sometime between 11pm and midnight while the lorry was parked up at the Southside services. The green curtain side trailer which was carrying a load of Christmas decorations, was found completely burnt out. The driver, who was asleep in the cab of the lorry at the time was thankfully woken by a fellow lorry driver who alerted him to the fire. He was able to unhitch his cab unit and drive it away before it was damaged When officers arrived at the scene they noticed that other curtain side lorries had been cut. Officers are currently investigating whether these reports could potentially be linked to the fire. PC David Every from Tandridge Area Policing Team, said: “I am urging anybody who was at the services and saw anybody acting suspicious that evening to contact us as soon as possible. “The fire caused catastrophic damaged to the vehicle but the outcome could have been far worse had the driver not had been woken and alerted to the fire.” Surrey Police urges anybody with any information to call 101 quoting, 45160098898
