Police on the Hunt for Scam Artist Who Ripped Off Vulnerable Pensioner in Garden Job Con
Police have released an e-fit image of a crook they want to track down after an elderly woman was swindled out of hundreds in Pennington. The victim was targeted in a brazen con on November 11.
Fake Gardener Charges £460 for Half-Hearted Job
Between 9am and midday, a man knocked on the pensioner’s door on Hillside Road. He offered to do some gardening and then worked for about an hour. Afterwards, he demanded a shocking £460 in cash.
Detective Constable David Wheeler slammed the scammer’s tactics. “This man charged an outrageous sum for the tiny amount of work done. He targeted a vulnerable woman and overcharged her massively,” Wheeler said.
No Receipt, No ID, Just a Fast-Talker
The conman handed no receipt, no contract, and gave no info about who he was or who he claimed to work for. The police have classified this as fraud by false representation – a fancy way of saying he ripped off the victim knowing the price should have been much lower.
“I would urge anyone with information about who this man might be, to contact us as soon as possible,” said Det Con Wheeler.
