Passenger Medically Evacuated from P&O Ventura Off Isle of Wight

A dramatic medical evacuation unfolded off the Isle of Wight tonight as a passenger suffered a heart attack aboard the P&O cruise ship Ventura.

Emergency Services Rush to the Scene

Bembridge RNLI and Rescue Helicopter 175 from Lee on Solent sprang into action just before 8pm. The Tamar-class All Weather Lifeboat and the coastguard chopper teamed up in the middle of the English Channel to tackle the emergency.

Cruise Ship Bound for Spain

Ventura had just left southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton, heading to Vigo, Spain, when the crew member collapsed. Paramedics were winched onto the ship to stabilise the patient, who was then carefully airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.

Rescue Operation Successfully Completed

  • Helicopter winched paramedic aboard Ventura
  • Sick crew member stabilised and airlifted
  • RNLI lifeboat and chopper now returning to base
  • Ventura resumes journey to Spain

Emergency teams have now stood down, and the Ventura is continuing its voyage uninterrupted.
