Early Morning Blaze Hits Riverside Shopping Centre

Four fire engines and around 30 firefighters raced to Riverside Shopping Centre on Bexley Road just after 6 a.m. on Saturday. A smouldering cable is believed to have sparked a fire inside a retail unit.

Quick Action Stops Flames Spreading

Security staff spotted the fire at the Subway outlet and alerted the London Fire Brigade. The brigade responded fast, dispatching four engines and a Command unit to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters used two hose reels and acted swiftly to stop the fire from spreading to nearby shops. Despite their efforts, part of the retail unit suffered severe damage.

Investigation Underway, Residents Evacuated

Specialists from the LFB fire investigation team are now probing the cause of the fire. Residents around the area were evacuated due to heavy smoke, but thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
