Kent Police Duo Snag Top Honours in Queen’s Birthday Awards!

Deputy Chief Tony Blaker Bags Queen’s Police Medal

Deputy Chief Constable Tony Blaker has been handed the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal for outstanding service in protecting the public. Since joining Kent Police as Deputy Chief in 2018, Blaker has been a key figure in central operations, tackling crime investigation, public protection, and counter-terrorism.

Before Kent, he spent 26 years with Sussex Police, leading major operations including the Shoreham air crash response and large public events like Brighton Pride. Blaker said, “Policing is all about teamwork. It’s a privilege to serve alongside such a professional team. I’m proud to receive this award.”

Superintendent Jason Wenlock Gets British Empire Medal for Cadet Scheme

Superintendent Jason Wenlock earned the British Empire Medal for launching Kent Police’s ground-breaking cadet scheme. Since 2015, over 600 youngsters have joined the programme, kickstarting careers as police officers, special constables, or staff.

Wenlock also leads the force’s volunteer programme and works as a Cadet Leader in Dover in his free time. He’s created a unique training regime to bring Special Constables up to the same standard as full-time officers – making Kent the only force offering this.

“Our police cadets are nothing short of incredible. Many have already joined the force, with hundreds more eager to apply. This award is as much for them as it is for me,” Wenlock said.

Kent Police Praise the Dynamic Duo

Chief Constable Alan Pughsley QPM hailed the achievements of both officers. “They are the best of Kent Police, and these awards reflect their dedication and hard work for our communities,” he said.

Chief Officer of the Kent Special Constabulary Gavin McKinnon CF added: “Jason Wenlock’s passion for the Cadet Program and his commitment to vulnerable youngsters is second to none. This honour is richly deserved.”
