Man Jailed for Rape, Arson, and Control in West Sussex
A man has been locked up for 7 years and 8 months after being found guilty of two counts of rape, arson, and coercive control against a woman in West Sussex.
Arthur ‘Alfy’ Norris Tried to Isolate Victim
Arthur Norris, 35, also known as Alfy Norris, manipulated the victim by claiming her family and friends were “toxic” to isolate her. The woman, whose identity remains protected by law, was subjected to horrific abuse.
Fire Leads Police to Horrifying Abuse
Police were called after Norris set fire to the victim’s car at her home. Following the incident, the woman revealed the extent of the rape and control she endured. Norris, formerly living in Montalan Crescent, Selsey, was arrested and remanded in custody.
At Portsmouth Crown Court in December, the jury found Norris unanimously guilty of all four charges.
Justice Served as Norris Sentenced
On Monday, March 6, Norris received a 7-year, 8-month prison sentence.
“Norris told a string of lies to deflect blame and to convince the people around him, including the victim, that he was not guilty of these offences. He was manipulative, but we are pleased that the jury saw through his lies,” said Detective Constable Jason Berney.
Berney added this case shows police commitment to justice for rape victims. “We always take reports seriously, and provide advice about how investigations will proceed,” he said.
The victim has been supported by specially-trained officers throughout the trial. Despite Norris’ attempts to deceive, he is now behind bars, paying for his crimes.
