Dangerous Driver Jailed for Deadly Bradford Crash
Timothy Cawley, 35, from Tingley, has been slammed with a 10-year jail term after a horrific crash that killed two men and injured three others. The court convicted him on two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and possession of a Class A drug.
Five-Year Driving Ban and Tough Test Await
Cawley was also hit with a five-year driving ban. He will have to pass an extended driving test if he ever wants to get back behind the wheel.
Deadly Collision on Bradford Road
The nightmare unfolded on 26 June 2019 near Woodhouse Lane junction, East Ardsley. Cawley’s black Volkswagen Golf smashed into a black Ford Focus and a silver Mercedes C220.
- Matthew Wilson, 26, from Holbeck, and Ian Broadhurst, 34, from Morley, who were passengers in the Golf, died on the spot.
- Three others — passengers and drivers in the other two vehicles — suffered serious injuries.
Police Speak Out on Tragic Crash
“Cawley’s appalling actions at the wheel cost two men their lives and left three others seriously injured in an incident that very starkly illustrates the tragic human consequences of dangerous driving,” said DC Martyn Burns of West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team. “The families of Matthew Wilson and Ian Broadhurst have been left utterly devastated at their deaths, and we can only hope that it will bring them some small measure of comfort to know the person responsible has now had to answer for his actions.”
