Teen Confesses to Killing Schoolgirl Elianne Andam
A 17-year-old boy has admitted to causing the death of 15-year-old Elianne Andam but denies murder charges. Instead, he pleads guilty to manslaughter.
Tragic Stabbing on Way to School
Elianne was fatally stabbed last September on Wellesley Road while heading to the Old Palace of John Whitgift School. The attack shocked the local community and led to a police investigation.
Defendant Faces Trial at Old Bailey
The teenager, whose identity is legally protected, appeared via video link at the Old Bailey on March 14. When asked about the murder charge, he denied it, claiming manslaughter instead. He also pleaded not guilty to carrying a blade in public.
Prosecutors rejected the manslaughter plea, insisting on pursuing the murder charge.
Trial Postponed, Family Left Waiting
The trial was originally set for April 29 but has been pushed back to November 25 due to unavoidable reasons.
“The delay prolongs the suffering of Elianne Andam’s family, who have the trial looming over their heads,” said Judge John Cavanagh KC. He urged for faster trials, especially those involving young defendants.
The family now faces months more of pain as justice is delayed in the tragic case of Elianne Andam.
