Man Admits Kidnapping Toddler from Remote Campsite

The little girl, named Cleo, was discovered alive and well almost three weeks after she vanished. Police found her in a nearby Carnarvon home—just minutes from her own—playing with toys and physically unharmed.

Officers broke into the property and arrested Kelly on a street nearby. Authorities say he acted alone and has no links to Cleo’s family.

Kidnapper in Custody, Faces Multiple Charges

Kelly remains behind bars and faces other criminal charges including assaulting a public officer. These cases have been adjourned to a later date, with his next court appearance scheduled for 20 March at 1 District Court.

Following his first court hearing, Kelly was shackled and flown under heavy guard from Carnarvon to Perth. Extra security measures were needed after he was twice hospitalised for self-inflicted injuries while in custody.
