Corrupt Prison Officers Jailed for Smuggling Drugs into HMP Doncaster
Three prison officers – Rio Moran, James Millington, and Callum Reilly – were caught smuggling drugs and contraband into multiple prisons, including HMP Doncaster. The crooked trio also laundered cash obtained from their illegal activities.
Police Nail Corrupt Staff in South Yorkshire Crackdown
South Yorkshire Police’s Prison Anti-Corruption Unit swooped on Moran as she arrived for work in November 2020. A huge haul of drugs and phones was seized at her home. While officers searched Moran’s address, Callum Reilly tried to smuggle more contraband through the front door, destined for HMP Doncaster.
Prisoner James Millington was identified as the main recipient of the smuggled items and was also arrested. His partner, Claire Anderson, was caught with drugs and phones at her Stockport home, believed to be meant for the prison.
Police and Prison Officials Hit Back at Corruption
“Our prisons are staffed predominantly with hard-working officers who go about their business professionally despite the risks,” said Detective Constable Scott Jarvis. “Those who commit crime will be dealt with robustly.”
Detective Sergeant Gareth Gent added: “This case shows how we work closely with prisons to quickly spot and stamp out corruption.”
John Hewitson, Serco Prison Director at HMP Doncaster, said: “We demand the highest standards. This individual fell well short. We have zero tolerance for anyone smuggling contraband and we will continue working with police to protect our prisons.”
Lengthy Jail Sentences for the Smugglers
- Rio Moran, 30, pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply Class B drugs into prison, smuggling contraband, and money laundering. She was jailed for two years.
- James Millington, 31, admitted involvement in drug supply from 2017-2020 and was sentenced to seven years and nine months behind bars.
- Callum Reilly, 30, from Stockport, pleaded guilty to drug supply and money laundering, receiving a 12-month jail term.
- Claire Anderson, 32, also pleaded guilty but had her sentencing adjourned until 25 March.
All four defendants previously confessed their roles at Sheffield Crown Court in September 2021.
