The first floor of a terraced house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene. The blaze was fierce and fast-spreading, prompting an urgent call for extra support.
Aerial Ladder Platform Called In
The officer in charge quickly requested an Aerial Ladder Platform to douse the fire from above. This vital piece of equipment helped firefighters tackle the flames more effectively and protected neighbouring homes from catching fire.
Essex Police also arrived, setting up a safety cordon to keep the public clear and emergency crews safe during the operation.
Fire Extinguished But Home Lost
By 10.30pm, firefighters had brought the fire under control, and it was fully extinguished by 11.17pm. Sadly, the damage was so severe the occupants are now homeless.
Charger Overheating Sparked Blaze
An investigation revealed the fire started accidentally when a charger overheated and caught fire in a bedroom.
Watch Manager John-Paul Charters warned: “Firefighters worked extremely hard to contain the rapidly spreading fire. The house where the fire began has been destroyed, but we prevented this from spreading to neighbours.”
“Charger fires are more common than you think. Please don’t leave chargers plugged in unattended or for long periods – the risk just isn’t worth it.”
