Thames Valley Police Heroes Nominated for Top Bravery Awards

A fearless team from Thames Valley Police has landed a nomination for the National Police Bravery Awards 2024. Their heroics during a deadly gas explosion and blaze saved lives and stopped disaster in its tracks.

Racing Into Danger in the Dead of Night

In the early hours of January 2, 2021, officers from Thames Valley Police’s Team 2 leapt into action after a report came through of a caravan fire gone horribly wrong. Despite finishing a gruelling 12-hour shift, every available officer scrambled to the scene.

They arrived to chaos: flames roaring, the fire spreading fast, and danger mounting by the second. The team’s focus was clear—rescue the casualty trapped close to the inferno and get residents to safety.

Brave Officers Risk Lives for Rescue

  • PC Alex Moore, Dominic Spear, and Adam Price led the charge, diving straight into the fire zone.
  • They steered dazed residents away from the blaze and located the casualty near the fire’s heart.
  • Facing explosions and flying debris, including a propane gas cylinder eruption, they fashioned a makeshift stretcher to haul the victim to safety.
  • PC Rachel Walsh, PC Reece Stansbury, and other officers kept up the rescue efforts, giving first aid and evacuating neighbourhoods amid the chaos.

Bodycam footage caught every tense, heroic moment. Despite exhaustion and danger, the police never wavered until the fire was finally controlled.

Leading Voices Praise Unmatched Courage

Thames Valley Police Federation Chair Craig O’Leary hailed the officers’ extraordinary bravery, saying their quick actions “undoubtedly saved lives.” Chief Constable Jason Hogg echoed the praise, calling their selflessness “a shining example of police dedication to protecting the community.”

The 2024 Police Bravery Awards nomination stands as a powerful tribute to Thames Valley Police’s finest—officers who faced fire and fury head-on to keep others safe.
