Chris Kaba, Rising Drill Star, Identified as Victim
Friends have confirmed the victim as Chris Kaba, a young Drill artist in his twenties. The shooting happened near 10 p.m. on Monday in Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham Hill. Police say they made “tactical contact” to stop his suspicious vehicle.
Kaba was rushed to hospital by London Air Ambulance but died early Tuesday from a gunshot wound sustained during the incident.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Tragedy
- The black Audi Kaba was driving was pursued by five police vehicles and a Met helicopter.
- Police say specialist firearms officers chased the suspect before the shooting.
- The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the incident.
One eyewitness told us the rapper tried to drive his Audi directly at police after being boxed in by three squad cars.
“A car was being chased down our street, and a police helicopter was flying overhead. When two vehicles collided, there was a loud bang—one a police car and the other the suspect’s. Armed cops jumped out and ordered the man to get out of the car. It had happened at least a dozen times.”
The witness added: “He had plenty of chances to stop but then drove forward, smashing into a police car before reversing. I only heard one shot. It looked like he could’ve killed an officer with the car. I don’t know why he didn’t stop.”
Community in Shock After Fatal Shooting
Another local said: “I saw cars speeding into our road and a helicopter overhead. Then I heard a bang. Armed cops were everywhere. People were trying CPR on someone on the ground. It was terrifying with all the blue lights flashing.”
St Stephen’s Church minister Helen Smith, who lives nearby, said: “I saw the blue lights flashing and found out a man had been shot. I’m extremely upset and hoping for the best for him and his family.”
