Arson Attack Caught on Camera in Gravesend
Tyrone Ludlow, 35, was caught on doorbell camera footage heading to his victim’s home in Gravesend with a petrol can in hand. Moments later, an explosion ripped through an outbuilding at the back of her property, destroying it in flames.
Ludlow Sentenced After Pleading Guilty
Living in Greenhithe, Ludlow was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on 23 September 2022 after pleading guilty to arson. He also admitted assault, criminal damage, and breaching a non-molestation order linked to the same victim.
The victim had ended their relationship before the first violent incident on 19 January 2022, when Ludlow threw a mobile phone that narrowly missed her head, damaged a wall, destroyed a television, ripped a kitchen cupboard door off its hinges, and shouted abuse in her face.
Non-Molestation Order Ignored, Violence Escalates
Following the January attack, the woman secured a non-molestation order against Ludlow. But he breached it twice in April by sending threatening texts.
On the evening of 16 April, while the victim was at home with her three children, a loud explosion shook the building. Flames were seen engulfing her garden shed. Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene to put out the blaze.
Ludlow was arrested later that night and charged for the offence.
Police Warn of Dangerous Behaviour
“Tyrone Ludlow is a dangerous individual who spared little thought for the safety of his victim, her three children, or anyone nearby when he recklessly caused an explosion at her home,” said Detective Constable Brian Mitchell.
“Offenders like him who have no self-control and put others at risk can have no complaints when they are sent to prison and have their freedom taken away.”
“I hope Ludlow’s victim can take some comfort knowing he is now behind bars and unable to harm her or other women again.”
