Brutal Bromley Shooting: Gunman Fired at Man’s Legs
On 20 October 2020, Firad Muhammed, 28, stormed a home in Chingley Close, Bromley. He knocked on the door – and when a 32-year-old man answered, Muhammed fired two shots straight into his legs before making a quick escape.
Secret Facebook Affair Leads to Shocking Motive
With no clear motive at first, Met detectives Ben Briselden and Imran Hansraj dived deep into phone records. Their furious digging uncovered flirtatious and romantic Facebook messages between Muhammed and the victim’s wife. Some messages even showed Muhammed regretted coming to the victim’s home to carry out the shooting, saying he should have picked a different spot in Bromley.
Gunman Jailed for 28 Years in London Crown Court
Muhammed was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. In a trial last July, he was found guilty. On 18 November, at Inner London Crown Court, he was sentenced to 28 years behind bars – with a minimum of two thirds to serve.
Detectives Laud Their Tenacious Phone Investigation
Detective Constable Ben Briselden said: “Muhammed travelled to the victim’s home with the intention to kill him. When we started the investigation, there were no leads, so we had to build the case through detailed mobile phone analysis. This could have been a murder case. I hope this sentence lets the victim, who has now fully recovered, move on with peace of mind that Muhammed won’t be out of prison anytime soon.”
DC Briselden and his partner DC Imran Hansraj received praise from the judge for their dogged work.
Judge Ian Darling said: “There is no doubt the police started from scratch and built the case painstakingly and thoroughly. The investigation was fraught with difficulty as no one was keen to tell the truth. The Met Police had no leads and were working in the dark. The impressive and onerous phone trawl finally bore fruit thanks to the officers’ dedication.”
