Ruthless Burglar Locked Up for 12 Years After Terrorising Orpington
Paul Debenham, 30, with no fixed address, has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars at Croydon Crown Court for a string of brutal burglaries in the Orpington area.
Targeted Elderly Victims in Home Invasions
Debenham preyed on the elderly, breaking into homes while residents were inside — twice. On 31 October 2023, he forced his way into a Spur Road house, brandishing a handgun at a 78-year-old man. He then pushed a 76-year-old woman to the floor before stealing their car and valuables.
He made off in the victim’s BMW 123, taking jewellery and leaving fear in his wake.
CCTV Footage Snared the Callous Criminal
Inside the property, Debenham was caught red-handed on internal CCTV, providing irrefutable evidence for police. This footage was crucial in connecting Debenham to a total of 15 offences, including four commercial burglaries, seven residential break-ins, vehicle theft, and vehicle interference.
A box with a bottle of alcohol found at the Spur Road scene bore his fingerprints, sealing his fate.
Police Praise Teamwork in Bringing Debenham to Justice
Investigating officer PC Rob Melton from Bromley Police said: “Debenham was a ruthless criminal who committed crime to fund his lifestyle. He showed no remorse for the long-lasting impact these offences would have on his victims.
“His arrest and the wealth of evidence came from a combined effort by multiple police units. He now faces a substantial sentence that will protect the public from his despicable crimes.”
Debenham’s 12-year sentence sends a strong message: crime against the vulnerable won’t be tolerated.
