Kipling Doriga, a Papua New Guinea international cricketer, has been slammed with a three-year prison sentence for robbing a woman to settle a £1,000 debt.

The Royal Court revealed how Doriga, 30, trailed his victim after spotting her leave a nightclub. He snatched her phone straight from her handbag. Doriga pleaded guilty to robbery yesterday.

Doriga was competing in Jersey at the ICC Challenge League, a vital step on the road to the 2027 Cricket World Cup. The crime took place on August 25, and he has been in custody ever since.
