Knife Rampage Rocks Sunderland Neighbourhood

Adam Ahmed, 30, a Sudanese migrant, was found guilty of attempted murder and wounding after launching a brutal knife attack on two neighbours in Sunderland. The savage assault took place on June 21 at a shared home on Roker Avenue. The guilty verdict came down at Newcastle Crown Court.

Terrifying Attack Caught Jury’s Attention

The court heard how Ahmed launched a chilling attack on Leon Askew, stabbing him deeply in the neck while he was on the phone with his mother in the garden. Ahmed struck from behind, covering Askew’s eyes before delivering the vicious blow. He showed no sign of remorse, then chased him down, stabbing Askew again on the arms as he tried to escape. Shaken, Askew locked himself in a room while his mother called police.

But the horror didn’t end there. Ahmed then attacked Robert Graham upstairs, stabbing him in the stomach and puncturing a bowel. Despite severe injuries, Graham managed to stop the bleeding with a tea towel before helping Askew to safety downstairs.

Cold Confession Spells Out Intent

“I wanted to kill him,” Ahmed admitted during police questioning. “If he did not run away I would have killed him.” When told both victims were hospitalised, he chillingly replied, “Good.”

Ahmed was cleared of attempted murder for Graham but convicted of wounding with intent.

From Sudan Conflict to Sunderland Streets

Ahmed fled war-torn Sudan in 2013, travelling through Libya, Italy, and France before reaching the UK by car. He had lived in Sunderland for five years before the attack. Court documents revealed Ahmed made multiple noise complaints at the property and accused police of ignoring him. Witnesses described him as oddly calm and detached before the violent outburst.

Police Speak Out on Shocking Stabbing

“This was a very serious incident which resulted in two men sustaining significant injuries. I am glad they have been able to see the person responsible brought to justice,” said Chief Inspector Gemma Calvert from Northumbria Police.

Calvert confirmed the stabbing was an isolated incident between people who knew each other.

Ahmed is due to be sentenced on 30 January after pre-sentence reports are prepared.
