A ruthless Edgware man has been convicted of attempted murder after planting a homemade bomb under a car in a “cruel and calculated” attack.
Bomb Threat Sparks Massive Police Operation
Robert Kovacs, 38, concealed the explosive device on a driveway in Cowley Hill, Borehamwood, on August 16 last year. Police received reports of a suspicious package shortly after midday and quickly set up a 100-metre cordon around the area.
Neighbours were evacuated to a nearby reception centre as a precaution. The explosive ordnance unit carried out controlled detonations, declaring the threat safe and removing the device by 11 pm.
Guilty on Multiple Charges
Kovacs, of Tenby Road, denied all charges but was found guilty at St Albans Crown Court on March 3 for attempted murder, making an explosive substance with intent, and acting with intent to cause an explosion.
His twisted plot left the community shaken. A judge will hand down Kovacs’ sentence on May 5.
“This was a cruel and carefully planned attack that could have ended in tragedy,” said court officials.
