Three men locked up in a National Security Act investigation linked to spying for Iran have had their detention extended. The trio were first arrested on Friday, 6 March, caught up in a Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) operation targeting suspected foreign intelligence assistance.
Detained Until 20 March as Investigation Gathers Pace
Westminster Magistrates’ Court approved further detention on Thursday, 12 March, allowing police to hold the men until Friday, 20 March. The suspects, aged 40, 52, and 55, were swooped on at addresses across Barnet and Watford.
The probe focuses on alleged spying activities tied to the Jewish community in London. Detectives from CTP London are leading the case, uncovering evidence of surveillance on locations and individuals linked to that community.
Senior Police Call for Vigilance
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans, Senior National Coordinator for CTP, said:
“This investigation continues at pace with a number of lines of enquiry being pursued by our detectives. These extended detentions allow us to carry on while ensuring public safety.
“We understand concerns within the Jewish community and want to reassure them we act quickly against any threat to their safety. Please stay alert and report anything suspicious.”
