Tragic Crash on M1
Two teenagers died instantly after their blue car broke through the bridge on Gilmorton Lane and slammed onto the M1 southbound near junction 20. The car collided head-on with a minibus travelling below.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
Leicestershire Police confirmed the fatal crash after being called at 1.33pm on Friday. Firefighters from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue and East Midlands Ambulance Service arrived quickly to assist.
Minibus Passengers Hurt but Survive
- Four people inside the white Fiat Ducato minibus suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
- The driver, a man, was discharged from the hospital.
- Three women passengers remain in the hospital receiving treatment.
Police Seek Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Officers urge anyone who drove on Gilmorton Lane or the M1 around 1.30pm to come forward. They’re especially keen to hear from motorists in both directions near junction 20.
