Hampshire police arrested five people today (Wednesday 6 May) during a major operation targeting organised theft of plant machinery in Southampton and nearby areas. Searches at commercial premises on Paynes Road, Southampton, and locations in Totton led to multiple seizures including suspected counterfeit cigarettes and a forklift.
Major Police Operation
Officers carried out warrants on storage units and vehicles, securing suspected stolen goods. Along with machinery, clothing and mobile phones were seized in a wide-ranging search.
Five Held On Burglary Suspicion
The five suspects, aged between 40 and 52, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and remain in custody. Police say the crackdown aims to dismantle the organised crime group behind the thefts.
500k Worth Stolen
The investigation covers over 30 thefts reported from 5 February to 17 April 2025. So far, plant machinery, RHIBs, generators, and fuel worth around half a million pounds have been taken.
