£5 Million Cocaine Haul Seized at Sheerness Port
Border Force officers, working alongside the National Crime Agency (NCA), made a major cocaine bust on Sunday, 16 January. Wrapped in tape and stashed inside the fan motor space of a container from South America, around 56 kilos of the Class A drug were recovered.
The NCA estimates the haul would have been worth a staggering £5 million once cut and sold on UK streets.
Second Big Drug Bust in Weeks
This marks the second big cocaine seizure at Sheerness port in less than a month. Just before Christmas, seven suspects were arrested after an NCA-led raid uncovered a massive 1.2 tonnes of cocaine.
Authorities say the two cases are not linked—yet.
NCA Cracks Down on UK Drug Supplies
Adam Berry, senior investigating officer with the NCA, vowed to keep hitting criminal networks hard. He said:
“This operation has seen criminal groups deprived of a substantial amount of profit. Working with our law enforcement partners like Border Force we are determined to do all we can to disrupt the flow of illicit drugs into the UK and prevent the violence and exploitation that follows.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers anonymously or call police on 101.
