Knife Crime Squad Nails Two in Suspicious Drug Deal Sting

Nottinghamshire’s county knife crime team caught two men red-handed in a suspected drug deal in Hucknall. Officers spotted the duo acting shifty on Titchfield Street and gave chase when they tried to bolt.

Machete, Swords, and Stashes of Cash Seized

Within minutes at around 1.20pm on Wednesday 5 April, the suspects were found in Yorke Street. Police uncovered a hidden machete nearby, plus cannabis, burner phones, and wads of cash on the pair.

Warrants at two addresses in Hucknall and Sutton-in-Ashfield then revealed even more. Cops seized a friction lock baton (illegal telescopic truncheon), a sword, and an arsenal of other weapons. Alongside nearly £15,000 in designer clothes and large sums of cash, they also found more drugs and paraphernalia.

Two Men Arrested on Multiple Charges

The men, aged 20 and 23, face charges including conspiring to supply Class B drugs and possessing knives in public. The 20-year-old was also hit with possession of an offensive weapon at home, money laundering, and cannabis charges.

Under the Offensive Weapons Act, friction lock batons, samurai swords, zombie knives, and knuckledusters are all illegal to own or sell in the UK since July 2021.

Police Warn: Offensive Weapons at Home Are a Crime

Sergeant Jonny Groves said: “We’re pleased with this result. Targeted patrols help us catch not just knife crime, but connected offences like drug dealing. “Having eyes on the ground lets us catch suspicious behaviour we might otherwise miss and remove dangerous weapons from the streets. “It’s crucial people understand that possessing offensive weapons at home is illegal and will lead to arrest.”
