West Midlands Police swooped on Tuesday, 21 March, arresting a man suspected of attempted murder in Birmingham. The shocking incident has now been tied to a horrific attack in Ealing where a man was doused in liquid and set ablaze.
Two Attempted Murders, One Suspect
The same suspect faces two counts of attempted murder. Detectives from the Met’s West Area Command are teaming up with West Midlands Police to crack the full story behind these terrifying events.
Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson of the Met’s West Area Command said: “We completely understand the shock that resonated throughout the community following this incident. Despite a man having been arrested, we continue to be vigilant and urge local people to do the same. Highly visible patrols around Singapore Road will continue in the coming days to provide reassurance to local people and I urge anyone who is concerned to approach officers.”
Brutal Attack Outside Islamic Centre
The Ealing attack happened around 8pm on Monday, 27 February. The suspect approached the victim outside the West London Islamic Centre and chatted for about five minutes before dousing him in a liquid, believed to be petrol. He then lit the victim on fire and calmly walked away.
The victim suffered severe burns to his face and arms and was rushed to hospital.
