Mum and Son Found Stabbed to Death in Barnet Home
Tragedy struck Brookside South, Barnet, on Tuesday afternoon when police and emergency crews found a 37-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son dead from stab wounds. The horrific discovery was made shortly after 1:30pm on June 21.
Victims Identified as Yi Chen and Son Xing Duan Yuan
The victims were identified as Yi Chen, a Chinese national, and her young son Xing Duan Yuan, born in the UK holding a Chinese passport. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their grieving family has been informed.
Yi Chen’s post-mortem confirmed stab wounds as the cause of death on Thursday, June 23. The boy’s post-mortem is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29.
Investigation Underway – No New Suspects
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Hine leads the probe from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. She said:
“The post-mortem examination on Yi Chen has provided important new information as to the nature of her injuries.”
“The 37-year-old man initially arrested has been released without further action.”
“No other suspects are being sought in connection with the two deaths.”
Specially trained officers are supporting the family through this devastating time. The police are also working with local organisations to help concerned residents, especially children affected by the tragedy.
