Police Power Duo Patrol Lydd and New Romney Streets
Kent is beefing up its street patrols as the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) teams up with Kent Police in a bold new partnership. Starting this Friday (11 September), officers from the CNC will hit the beat alongside local cops in Lydd and New Romney.
CNC and Kent Police Join Forces
The CNC, tasked with guarding civil nuclear sites—including the one at Dungeness—will pair up with Kent Police officers for joint patrols. Each patrol will have one officer from each force responding to local calls, conducting routine checks, and tackling enquiries together.
This fresh collaboration aims to sharpen CNC officers’ policing skills while bolstering Kent Police’s resources. The combined forces will boost safety coverage in the district, especially across rural areas that often miss out on quick emergency responses.
Armed with Medics and New Medical Gear
Many CNC officers double up as trained medics, ready to deliver crucial emergency medical care at the scene. Thanks to funding from the Folkestone and Hythe Community Safety Partnership, patrols will be equipped with first responder medical kits to save lives when seconds count.
Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes, Kent Police District Commander for Ashford, Folkestone and Hythe, said: “We are excited to welcome our colleagues from the CNC to work directly alongside us to keep Kent safe. This partnership will enhance our service and deliver extra first responders on patrol in rural areas.”
Inspector Andy Oatham, Operational Unit Commander at Dungeness power station, added: “Our officers have the same powers as Home Office police and will gain valuable new policing experience through this initiative, while still prioritising protection of national infrastructure.”
With CNC and Kent Police combining forces, Lydd and New Romney residents can expect a stronger, smarter, and faster police presence on their streets.
