Cop Dragged by Car After Pedestrian Hit in Midnight Scamper

In the early hours of Sunday, a Nottinghamshire police officer faced a harrowing ordeal in Mansfield. At about 3:39am on Clumber Street, a member of the public was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Officer Dragged Before Car Crashes Into Tree

When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped off, dragging the officer a short distance along the ground. The runaway car then smashed into a tree on nearby Haddon Road.

Drunk Driver Arrested, Still in Hospital

  • A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance.
  • He remains hospitalised with injuries from the crash.
  • The officer suffered minor cuts and bruises to his arm and face.
  • The pedestrian hit did not require medical treatment.
  • Two passengers in the car escaped unscathed.

“This was a frightening incident for the officer involved, who thankfully was not seriously hurt,” said Inspector Matt Scott of Nottinghamshire Police. “Sadly, this is yet another reminder of the potential dangers our officers face every time they step out on patrol to keep the public safe.”
