Emergency crews are still investigating a small explosion that rocked a residential property in Sharnbrook on Monday evening.
Specialist Bomb Squad Leads Investigation
The incident occurred around 7.40pm on April 10 at a house on Loring Road. A specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been scouring the premises since. Three neighbouring homes remain evacuated as a precaution while searches continue.
Man in His 40s Arrested But Too Injured to Be Interviewed
A man in his 40s suffered life-changing injuries and is currently in hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosive Substances Act, but police have yet to question him due to his medical condition.
Police and Counter Terrorism Units Involved
Bedfordshire Police are leading the probe with backup from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.
Given the nature of the blast, Counter Terrorism Policing has also deployed specialist resources to uncover the full story.
Detective Superintendent William Hodgkinson, heading the investigation, said: “This is believed to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public. We thank the local community for their patience, especially those displaced by the evacuation. Emergency services will remain on scene throughout the week as we work hard to find out exactly what happened.”
