Fireball Horror on A21: Road Closed Both Ways After Vehicle Explosion
A terrifying early morning blast on the A21 has forced Kent Police to shut the road in both directions. Just after 3.20am on Thursday, a vehicle erupted into a massive fireball, sparking a full emergency response.
Emergency Services Race to Scene
Police, paramedics, and Kent Fire & Rescue scrambled to the scene to tackle the blazing inferno. Fire crews doused the flames using two high-pressure hose reels, reportedly engulfed completely by fire.
The Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance also landed on the carriageway to provide life-saving support to those involved in the collision.
“A large explosion was heard and the vehicle turned into a fireball,” witnesses reported.
Road Closures and Chaos for Commuters
The incident has shut the A21 between Morleys Roundabout, Sevenoaks (A225), and Tonbridge (A26) in both directions. Police warn the closure could last through the morning rush hour, causing major delays.
Highways England advised drivers to follow the “hollow circle” diversion route:
- At Morleys Roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto B245 (London Road)
- At A227 T-junction, local roadworks force a detour: turn left, then right at the next roundabout onto Yardley Park Road
- Turn right onto A26 at the T-junction
- Follow hollow circle signs to re-join the A21 at Vauxhall Lane
Expect long delays and added journey times on all diversion routes.
