A303 Bypass Shutdown After Horror Multi-Car Crash Near Cholderton
The A303 Bypass near Cholderton, Wiltshire, is completely shut after a nasty multi-vehicle smash on Friday evening. The pile-up happened at around 5.30pm and left several people injured, with at least two cars involved.
Air Ambulances Scramble to Crash Scene Near Amesbury
Three air ambulances rushed to the scene just east of Amesbury (pronounced Aims-bree). Wiltshire and Bath, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulances all responded swiftly. Two casualties were airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at 1 General Hospital for urgent treatment.
Road to Stay Closed Until Saturday: Diversions in Place
Due to the severity of the collision, the A303 remains closed both ways from Parkhouse Corner to the Countess roundabout near Amesbury. Police have set up these diversion routes:
- Westbound: Exit at Parkhouse Corner onto the A338 towards Salisbury.
- Eastbound: Take the 3rd exit from the roundabout heading towards Amesbury.
Police Launch Full Investigation – Motorists Urged to Avoid Area
A full-scale forensic collision investigation is underway. Police expect the road to stay closed until around midday on Saturday, 29 March. A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We’re working with emergency services to manage the scene and keep everyone safe. The road will remain closed while collision investigators carry out their work.”
