A man has been arrested and an arson investigation is underway after a dramatic late-night house fire in Southsea.

Just after 11.30pm on Friday, three fire engines from Southsea rushed to a property on Waverley Road. Firefighters faced a fierce blaze that quickly spread through the flat.
Firefighters Battle Flames Through the Night
Two teams, fully kitted in breathing apparatus, blasted the fire with two hose reels. Despite their efforts, the flat suffered extensive damage.
Man Held Over Suspicious Fire
Police took one man into custody on suspicion of arson and endangering life. He is currently being questioned as investigations continue.
Neighbours Fear Another Blaze
Shocked locals say this is the second fire to break out at the property within days.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said, “We sent a number of fire resources to the scene along with a tactical advisor.”
“Thankfully, no one was injured in the blaze.”
