Isle of Wight Police Raid Property in Child Grooming Probe

Officers on the Isle of Wight launched an early morning raid in East Cowes today (Wednesday 21st February 2018). A man, who remains unnamed, was arrested on suspicion of child grooming and taken to Newport Police Station for questioning.

Targeting Online Grooming and Indecent Images

The operation focused on cracking down on online grooming and the sharing of indecent images of children in the area. Police searched several properties and seized a “significant number” of computer devices during the swoop.

Crucial Evidence Seized

A police source revealed: “The activity comes after intelligence suggested devices at these addresses may have been used to download or share indecent images, or in connection with grooming offences. The seized equipment will be examined by specialists to establish what crimes may have been committed.”

Items confiscated include mobile phones and the suspect’s laptop. The raid kicked off just after 7am. Police have yet to reveal how many children may be involved or the length of the grooming activity.
