Cleveland cops face knives head-on – now up for top bravery awards!
Knife attack chaos in Cleveland
Five brave officers from Cleveland Police risked life and limb when confronting an armed individual in a violent, fast-paced incident. PCs Holly Grey, Sam Handley, Maverick Reddington, Rachael Dack, Cara 1, plus two unnamed colleagues, all came out fighting – and three ended up with knife wounds.
Close call as officers battle attacker
It all kicked off when PCs Grey and Handley responded to a safety concern. The situation quickly exploded as PC Handley was brutally attacked and PC Grey suffered stab wounds to her leg and hand. Despite the chaos, the team held firm, working together to contain the threat.
The attacker was relentless, charging at officers and even trying to grab PC Grey’s Taser. Taser attempts failed and calming talks fell on deaf ears. Thanks to PC Handley’s quick deployment of PAVA spray, the situation didn’t escalate any further.
Bravery praised by top brass
Cleveland Police Federation Secretary Carl Baker hailed the officers’ “immense bravery” and praised their teamwork “despite serious injuries.” He called it sheer luck that no one was killed. Federation Chair Paul Crowley and Chief Constable Mark Webster echoed the praise, calling the team “exemplary” and highlighting their “courage and unwavering commitment to public safety.”
National recognition ahead
The heroic crew has now been nominated for the National Police Bravery Awards 2024. Their fearless actions underline the dangers police face daily and their dedication to protecting the public at all costs.
