Man Arrested After Woman Found Stabbed to Death in Tower Hamlets

Detectives have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of a woman in Tower Hamlets. The arrest happened on Sunday, 27 March, in Stratford, and the man remains in police custody.

Victim Identified as Local Woman Yasmin Begum

While formal identification is pending, officers are confident the victim is 40-year-old Yasmin Begum, a local resident. Her family has been informed and continues to receive support from specially trained police officers.

Tragic Discovery After Yasmin Misses School Pick-Up

Police were called to Globe Road, E2, at 4.06 pm on Thursday, 24 March after school staff raised the alarm when Yasmin failed to pick up her children. Emergency services found her with multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts to save her, Yasmin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway as Police Appeal for Witnesses

A post-mortem confirmed Yasmin died from multiple sharp force injuries. The Met’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the probe. A crime scene is expected to remain for days as officers comb the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith: “My thoughts are with Yasmin’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We are working around the clock to get the answers they deserve.

“It’s heartbreaking that yet another woman has been killed. Women and girls have the right to feel safe anytime, anywhere. Finding those responsible is our top priority. Forensic teams and police remain on scene, carrying out door-to-door inquiries with extra patrols in the area.

“We urge anyone with information, no matter how small it seems, to come forward. Your tip could be crucial.”
