Early Morning Raids Smash Human Trafficking Gang in Kent

Police swooped at dawn across Folkestone, Dover, and Lydd in a major crackdown on human trafficking and modern slavery. The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate executed four simultaneous warrants targeting a suspected organised crime ring with links to Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Two Arrested in Dover Sting

A 47-year-old and a 25-year-old man were arrested at the same Dover property on suspicion of arranging or facilitating travel for exploitation, in breach of the 2015 Modern Slavery Act. Both remain in custody as police continue their enquiries.

Dozens of Potential Victims Rescued

So far, officers have identified 12 possible victims of modern slavery. They have been taken to safe locations with support. Further raids at seven additional sites are planned throughout the day.

Detective Inspector James Derham said: “Human trafficking and modern slavery are booming international crimes, generating huge profits for ruthless criminals who prey on vulnerable people lured to the UK with false promises. Instead, these victims endure backbreaking labour, horrible abuse, and live in squalid, unsafe conditions.”

He added: “Kent Police is relentless in hunting down those responsible. These crimes have no place in a civilised society, and we are committed to protecting the most vulnerable.”

Salvation Army Offers Lifeline to Victims

The Salvation Army assisted in the raids, with director Anne Read highlighting the vital support on offer. She explained: “All rescued victims are provided with specialist care through a Government contract, including 24/7 support, counselling, accommodation, repatriation, and help finding work.”

She urged anyone who suspects they or someone else is a victim of modern slavery to contact The Salvation Army’s 24-hour confidential helpline on 0300 303 8151.
