Tragic Sea Rescue Near Sandown Pier Ends in Death

Emergency services rushed to the seaside town near Sandown Pier shortly before 5pm today (Monday) after reports of a man in distress.

Air Ambulance and Coastguards Launch Dramatic Rescue

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed on the beach as Coastguard Rescue 175, Isle of Wight paramedics, and Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguards were dispatched. Lifeguards and police officers joined the frantic effort to save the man, who was spotted struggling west of the pier.

Man Pulled From Sea, CPR Attempted on Beach

Rescuers found the man unresponsive on a paddleboard and immediately started CPR on the shore. Despite their desperate attempts, the victim tragically could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Investigate Sudden Death

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed the man was pulled from the sea but sadly died. Officers remain at the scene as they launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
