Eight Years On: Brutal Attack on 80-Year-Old Tommy Ward Still Unsolved

This week marks the grim eighth anniversary of the savage assault on 80-year-old Tommy Ward in his Maltby home. On Thursday, 1 October 2015, emergency services raced to Tommy’s house on Salisbury Road after a distress call. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

£30,000 Stolen in Heartless Home Invasion

Investigators soon uncovered that a safety deposit box containing around £30,000 had been stolen during the attack. Despite Tommy’s courage in the months that followed, he sadly died from his injuries on 23 February 2016.

Murder Probe Hits Dead End but Police Plead for Help

A murder investigation was launched immediately. Several suspects were arrested on charges including murder, robbery, and aggravated burglary. Yet, shockingly, no charges have been brought in relation to Tommy’s death.

“This was a brutal attack on a defenceless elderly man, causing immense heartache for his family,” said Detective Inspector Matt Bolger, who now leads the case. “Despite years passing, we have no clear answers. We urge anyone with information to come forward and help us bring justice to Tommy’s family.”

Police Keep the Case Live, Appeal for Witnesses

The investigation is ongoing, with officers staying in regular contact with Tommy’s family. DI Bolger emphasised the team’s commitment to cracking the case and providing the family with the closure they deserve.
