Freak Accident on Busy Christmas Shopping Street

The incident happened on North Street, Havant, between 12.35pm and 12.40pm on Sunday, December 18. Gillian’s scarf got entangled in the rear wheel of the vehicle, causing serious injury. Despite CPR efforts by bystanders and rapid emergency response, Gillian sadly died at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

“This incident took place at a busy time of day when there were lots of Christmas shoppers in North Street so it is likely many people saw what happened,” said Sergeant Melanie Adcock. “I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of this incident.”

Family Pays Heartbreaking Tribute

Gillian’s family described her as a “wonderful lady” in a moving tribute delivered through Hampshire police. They said:

“As a family we are totally devastated at the sudden and tragic loss of such a wonderful lady. This is very hard to come to terms with, and we ask that as a family we are left alone to grieve.”

Investigation Ongoing, No Suspicious Circumstances

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed Gillian’s death is not being treated as suspicious. The beach buggy driver, a man in his 60s, was unharmed. Investigators continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should call Hampshire Constabulary on 101 quoting incident number 44160476293.
